Happy New Year With An Insult

Fall 001It was eleven am when Jen and I toasted in a false Happy New Year’s Day.
As our glasses touched, the tune of crystal rang out mingled with our laughter.

Nothing in our home is more precious than porch time, especially today. It’s the first day of 2016 and we had a year of memories to share.

Next thing ya know it’s time for me to slide into the kitchen and start that mouth-watering meal I promised.

Then it happened.

Everything is vague. Bits and pieces. Eggs on the counter, Gabby ’round my feet, laying on the floor, blood, fear.

Then came the pain, hospital, doctors, needles, and my new look. I still don’t remember what happened. For sure though, cannot brag again
that I have never had a black eye.

What I do have is luck. No concussion, broken bones, anything serious. There is a bruised lump on my palm, must have put my arm out to break
the fall. Also, a large bruise on my hip, my knee hurts. Aaaand a headache worse than a hangover.

Yes, it hurts as bad as it looks.

Still, God is good and I can say…
