“It’s been a year and you haven’t taken dad’s clothes out of the closet,” she slammed her mother.
Mother and daughter are toe to toe in her college room. When the argument ends, mom drives home and immediately empties her husband’s side of the closet.
If you had a deep, abiding love with another person and lost them—your world falls apart. You don’t know how long this will last. That is up to your heart.
Friends and family say they know how you feel. They don’t, it’s your pain. They talk to you, give well-meaning advice. Their words are just a buzz inside your head. You’re in such a daze, nothing penetrates. You try to act natural, not let it show, go about your life as if all is okay. It’s anything but. Your pain dictates everything.
You know that:
• Your heart keeps its own schedule
• You will let it
• It’s not up to others to decide
• You hope today the pain will be less
• You will let go when you’re ready
• You may never put anything away
• The clothes might stay in the closet
• You may never be ready to let go
• Your heart will decide
As I write, it has been 2yrs, 3mos, 3wks and 4 days since I lost my one true love. Nothing has changed since that moment. Maybe it never will…
My heart will let me know.
