You are not gonna believe this…
It’s so froggy in Milan, Italy that buildings rise into the sky covered with a fake forest. It’s called a microclimate to filter out pollution.
It’s called the Bosco Verticale – Vertical Forest
The plan is to turn sixty abandoned farms into a Greenbelt that will surround the city. The buildings will have a “living” bio-canopy that absorbs CO2, oxygenates the air, moderates temperatures and lowers noise.
These buildings are considered beautiful and supposedly lower the cost of living. Each balcony has 900 plants to provide shade in the summer and allow sunlight in the winter when the leaves fall.
This is the design by Stefan Boeri Architects
(pretty cool, huh)
There is a plant irrigation system and photovoltaic power, whatever that is, to provide power to the building. See more: http://www.stefanoboeriarchitetti.net/
Someone is on the balcony in the building on the left.
I would probably head into the trees and keep walkin’.
May Your Glass Always Be Half Full
