Come August it will be twenty-six years since we built our cozy, comfy home in rural Central Florida.
From day one, I have loved to watch these critters chase one another across the lawn and scamper up the trees. They are like little children who run and play all the day long.
We used to have lots of these fun, furry little entertainers. Then gradually they began to disappear. I don’t understand. Does it relate to the tropical birds nearby?
Dozens of cages filled with Macaws, Cockatiels and Greys have been there for years creating the atmosphere of a lively, raucous parrot jungle.
The squirrels seemed fascinated. They zipped along the top of the wooden fence that separates the properties, as if the birds call to them.
And then, little by little the friendly little creatures began to disappear. Maybe there is no connection, maybe it’s just a coincidence.
I really don’t know why our little buddies left, but I can’t forget them.
The birds seem to be gone now. We think the last of the cages were removed the other day.
Hopefully, the squirrels will soon return to fill our lives with joy and laughter once again.
