The Difference Between Blue Eyes and Brown Eyes

Shackman, a consort in the LBC, gave us the argument topic of nature vs. nurture for today. This is my take on the subject:

Nature determines the color, shape, lashes, etc. of my eyes. I’d like to have a talk with someone about lashes. I mean, short lashes on a girl?

Nurture is how I take care of my blue eyes. Like eating food that is good for them, give my peepers enough rest … and use eye drops, ‘cause nature’s nurturing doesn’t help much these days.

I read that a human has only twice as many genes as the average fruit fly. Can you imagine that? This little tidbit was discovered in one of those famous studies.

Nature1 Every type of fruit fly “wings it” with its own love song. Scientists say
it’s genetic. Maybe so, but I would be willing to let the fly teach me.

And then there is the clash over nature vs. nurture. How I became me. I’m no expert so please, no e-mails. I’m just sayin’…

The list of nature vs. nurture is long enough to make my eyes burn. The roster really starts to smoke when it gets to behavior. How “Little Johnny is a bully ‘cause his dad is tough.” Seee, the genes may not be many but they carry the most weight. Not exactly…

I can’t help what color eyes I was born with, how I was raised or what my parents did or didn’t do. But God gave me the gift of “free will,” so I have a choice. Nature vs. nurture aside…

The only one responsible for what I say and do is me.
