Maxi Malone to Undergo Herniated Disc Surgery

I wasn’t going to post this, but changed my mind because it may help one of you who will face this surgery or maybe a family member.

I was born with Klippel-Feil syndrome:

Meaning, I have two vertebrae in my neck fused together: c4 & c5.

This caused weakness in my neck and now the discs are herniating.

In 2006, c3 started to bulge and has now completely herniated—it is pressing against my spinal cord.

The past four years I have tried physical therapy, traction, exercises, and many cervical injections.  The epidurals kept me pain-free for three months at a time—until this past year.

In January, 2010 I had an MRI which showed c3 had herniated and c6 and c7 were bulging.

This past Thursday I had another MRI; the surgeon will use these x-rays to do surgery on Wednesday, January 12, 2011.

A letter came in the mail the other day telling me to be at the hospital at 5:30am Wednesday. Can you imagine?

The surgeon’s assistant told me it’s being rescheduled for a little later. Whew!

The surgeon called me at home Friday to tell me the results of the MRI. He said that I will definitely need surgery on c6 & c7—and when I do—I will no longer have any movement in my neck.

Actually, I’m lucky that I have lasted this long considering…

Any questions, ask away, be glad to help.

May Your Glass Always Be Half Full

Hopefully I will be back talking with you on Monday, 17th
