It’s time for the show, only Tilikum doesn’t want to play. There are reports that he had refused to perform earlier in the day. The Orca is aging, could it be that he was tired and annoyed?
Maybe it was the trainer’s ponytail, as SeaWorld officials say. Telling it my way: Dawn Brancheau squatted alongside the Orca, one hand reaching toward the audience, the other stroking the whale. As she smiled and talked, head turning back and forth, her ponytail kept brushing against “Tilly’s” nose.
He soon forgot about being tired … aaalright, it was time to play. In a flash, he snatched the trainer and dragged her under the water. Or, he thrashed her back and forth in a frenzy of irritation.
I doubt we will ever know.
In the comments that I have read … one remark is repeated: Whales should not be kept in tanks for humans to gawk at. Here’s the problem. As long as we pay amusement parks to watch these animals perform, places like SeaWorld will keep whales in tanks.
How many of us go to these parks?
