Show me the money! And free land … people must be rushing there in droves.
Don’t get excited. You and I know there must be a catch, there is no such thing as free in this life. Let’s take a closer look. Check out the whole deal, aaand look at the situation of someone who did take the offer.
First of all, hundreds of people inquired about the offer. Several families even visited the area. When they discovered it would take a permanent move to a tiny town named Hazelton, the folks headed back home.
Except for one family, Michael and Jeanette Tristani and their 12-year-old twins—they stayed. This was a dream come true. They had had it with the crime in Miami, the horrendous traffic, high cost of living and terrifying hurricanes. It was going to be great living in a small town.
“We don’t have to look over our shoulder to see who’s going to rob us, or jump out of the bushes to attack us,” Tristani stated. “Taxes are low, the cost of living is low and the kids enjoy school.”
Uh oh, be careful what you wish for. Sure they got the free land and cash toward a home and their coffee shop. Only soon, another coffee shop opened and there was serious trouble. The Tristanis claimed the owner threatened them at their home and took out a restraining order.
Also, they didn’t feel accepted … felt as if they were treated like outsiders.
Another thing the Tristani family wasn’t prepared for is the weather. “The cold weather has them freaked,” said Michael.
The couple’s home has been on the market since August … only the for-sale sign has been covered with snow for weeks.
