If you have anyone close to you in the military be prepared to feel the outrage.
“We support our troops.” How many times have we heard that statement from people in Congress? However, when it came time to step up to the plate these same Senators turned their back on our military.
You know those “earmarks” we’re always hearing about? Those are Senator’s pet projects: pay back for huge campaign contributions or something they have taken on to remain popular.
Earmarks are nothing new but this type of spending is. A study done this year showed that Senators took most of the money for their pet projects from “operations and maintenance.” These are accounts that pay for troop training, repairs, spares and supplies for vehicles, weapons, ships and planes, food and fuel.
The Senators took $2.6 Billion from the Defense Spending Bill for their own gain. Yet, it wasn’t long ago that they were in a rage about the troops not having enough body army. Well, they had a chance to make things right.
One of their choices is to erect an educational institute named after the late Senator Kennedy: cost $20 million. There’s nothing wrong with this but don’t take money that is put aside to defend this country. We need to support our troops in order to do this.
We shouldn’t be surprised … but the money for food and supplies?
