This is my ’91 Olds sittin’ in the garage of the home we built twenty-two years ago. There will be no more vehicles for me when she goes; my hubby will have to take me where I need to go. He has a 2001 Dodge Ram truck that I really like, especially the sound … but I ain’t drivin’ it. Too big.
We live frugally, get by on a small pension and Social Security.
And that’s the problem: the government has cut our Social Security benefits. It’s a small cost of living increase that we count on. We are told that the freeze is only for two years. Riiiight. At the same time our Medicare payments will increase. These payments were taken from my husband’s paycheck for years before he retired.
This is not the ‘change’ we were promised. This is the government looking for money at the expense of senior citizens. The loss of a few dollars here, an added expense there may be all it takes for some seniors to lose their home.
Are we scared yet? You bet. Will you or your parents be affected?
