One night back in February I clicked the remote and a man’s face filled the screen, tears streaming from his eyes. “That man is in a lot of pain,” I said to my husband. It was little Haleigh’s daddy, Ronald Cummings.
We heard different versions of the same story from Misty Croslin, who was taking care of Haleigh on the night she disappeared.
According to Misty: She and Haleigh were sleeping on mattresses only a few feet apart when she got up to go to the bathroom; she didn’t use the bedroom bathroom because the kitchen light was on and when she went to turn it off she used another bathroom. When Misty returned to the bedroom Haleigh was gone. Also, the back door was propped open with a brick.
That’s pretty much the bare bones. Only sheriff’s investigators have spoken with Misty many times and say her story is “full of inconsistencies.” She also hasn’t told them what she was doing all those hours before Haleigh vanished. The police say physical evidence contradicts what Misty has told them.
When Ronald Cummings married Misty … that caught me off guard. How about you?
Haleigh’s disappearance is back in the spotlight because it’s her sixth birthday. Misty wanted to clear her name and asked to take another lie detector test—she failed. She also failed a voice analysis test, than refused the scheduled hypnosis test.
Now Misty has changed her story—swears she was badgered into taking the tests.
