Fighting With Fay

August 23, 2008 by Maxi

The call came in just before six-thirty am. “You better leave early it’s getting bad down here. Streets are startin’ to flood, wind is howlin,’ doesn’t look good. See ya in a bit.”

Can you believe it? We’re in the middle of a Tropical Storm and I’m havin’ eye surgery? My friend is calling from Melbourne(the hardest hit area) to tell me that Fay is gettin’ cranky. My stomach starts to turn from jello to …

Ten minutes later we are headed out in the ‘Black Bear,’ my husband’s Dodge Ram truck. Weather isn’t too bad until we’re twenty miles down the road. Next thing the water comes flyin’ over the hood, I’m yellin’ “Whoa, Nellie” and we’re fighting with Fay. Fortunately, my husband is a good driver and we don’t have much farther to go.

Long story short—the surgery went fine, we made it home without mishap and I’m lookin’ good. Can’t say as much for the home front though. No damage, but it looks like a lake covered with palm fronds.
